The tears formed in her eyes, as the pain began to unfold. She fought a valiant fight to hold them back, hide them from us all. The pain pierced her veil, crossed the room and made itself known, if only to me. Helpless, I watched, acknowledged it not. Destroyed my urge to say: "All would be all right." "No," for I could not make that promise and assure it would be true. My heart sensed she knew too, and so, I watched the struggle unfold. Watched and listened. Knew her pain, felt my own. Knew also that a thousand miles south of where we were someone waited, watched the skies, knew much more than I, the depth of what I saw - a kindred spirit who had captured the essence of this spirit. Knew from whence it came, loved it as it was, and did not wish to remold it. In the end, she had a job to do, and she did it with dignity and grace. The one she now serves paid the highest respect. As he said, "I have seen the hugs at the Booth…" Seldom do you see one who can cross the great barrier in business to extend yourself to the point you are loved by those you serve. For in the end, to love and be loved in return is all that really matters. |
