Warmth rolls over me like liquid velvet. My moves are fluid and sure. I have learned to manipulate the currents - a twist here, a turn there, when I feel the need to move ahead. The Sea is my protector, my faithful confidante, my friend - who gives me life and a watery bed. She holds me in her hand - my destiny at her frivolous whim, should she decide to give me up. I break the surface, often - out of idle curiosity, out of a need to reinforce the belief that I am one of the lucky ones - one of those who calls the sea my home. I find the safety I seek in her arms - solace from those who have no choice; from those who must dwell above the rim - there, in sadness, on the face of the land. For they know not the depths, nor the challenge to ride the waves, or the tender kiss of morning light from an ocean's dawn. I have tasted the life of the sea; I have rolled her wealth across my tongue and savored the richness of her bounty. I am her child, her follower, her devoted Disciple of Light. I am the Spirit of the Water, ardent companion to all who know me.… |
